    Overview

Superbly comfortable country life surrounded by harmony and peace

Villa La Contenta is a traditional Venetian farmhouse nestled on a large estate, one of the most prestigious aristocratic properties of the Veneto, home to a historic villa, a 19th-century english park, an 18-hole golf course and cultivated farmland. The large farmhouse sits within its own private garden with a pool and looks out onto the park of the estate and the Euganean hills.

The farmhouse has been entirely restored, keeping its traditional characteristics all the while updating it to 21st-century standards and amenities. The airy interior has crisp white walls and comfortable living spaces with classy furnishings and open fireplaces. The modern kitchen opens onto the herb garden which guests can make use of for preparing their meals. These can be enjoyed in the inside dining room or in the typical outdoor covered loggia, adjacent to an outdoor living area.

The villa’s seven bedrooms are spread over its three floors. They are feature lovely wooden furniture, attractive fabric prints and newly fitted en-suite bathrooms, some with soaking tubs.

The huge pool is a definitely highlight. This is bordered by a pool house and sunbeds. Beyond this is Villa La Contenta sprawling 6000 m2 garden. This has been carefully planted with an herb garden, roses, lilacs, iris and calendula as well as a variety of trees including poplars, walnuts, hazelnuts, figs, cherries and apples.

The villa has a charging point for electrical cars (no extra fees).

This historic estate reaveals its delights slowly and elegantly. Leaving the bustling Venetian activities behind you, the drive leads you on a simple country road through fields which melt into the natural park of the Euganean hills. You will soon discover the historical main villa on top of one of the hills, seemingly shielding the elegantly structured farm buildings, the beautifully restored farmhouse Villa La Contenta offered here and a wonderfully romantic 19th century garden folly reminiscent of a Palladian temple (The Temple / all featured in our portfolio). The estate has been in the hands of an ancient Counts's family since the 13th century, well over 700 years.

This is one of the great Venetian properties. The 150 hectare estate consists of a Venetian villa, a 19th century English park, a skillfully designed 18 hole golf course and cultivated farmland with several farm buildings.

All this only 20 km south of Padua, within easy reach of the famous historic villas of the Veneto, many of them built by the great Italian architect Andrea Palladio, as also the cities of the Veneto and the Lake district.

    Villa La Contenta
The Villa was perfect for our family with all the little ones enjoying the pool and space to run around. We took the room by the pool for some night time quiet. Having dinner or breakfast on the terrace in front of the house was wonderful. Conveniently located to Venice, Verona, Padua, was ideal and we found a number of delicious restaurants near the Villa that surprised us and were very accommodating for our large family. Enjoy!

    Dear Hidden Italy
I write with the thanks of our party for a truly excellent week's stay in the villa Bencontenta. The Villa was quite as beautiful as we had been expecting, the bedrooms were comfortable and well suited to our needs, the swimming pool, the table tennis table and other facilities which we did not need to take advantage of really, were all excellent. Most impressive of all, though, was the work of Saba and Sylvie in the kitchen. All our meals - and we ate nearly always at the Villa - were very well prepared and both Saba and her daughter were most helpful and delightful. They are two lovely and very special people. The Villa's guests are very lucky to have them looking after their needs. In passing, the mini-bus hire for our Verona outing was entirely successful. I used the company you recommended to me.

There were a few minor observations that we had about the Villa's fabric which i did mention to Saba: fairly minor things such as some of the electrical fittings, the condition of some of the pool loungers and one of the sun shades. I wonder if I should be passing these observations on to Francesca or you. We had no accidents ourselves and Saba returned my 500 EU deposit before we left.

In passing, highlights of our short stay in Italy were definitely our outing to Verona for the Opera Aida and an excellent meal beforehand at a restaurant Artica Terreta. We also had an especially good meal to celebrate Juliet Wilson's 60th birthday for which we dressed in Roman costumes ( I was a slave - seemed suitable! -) and Saba and Sylvie produced a very special meal. Most of us went on a guided tour of the various estate buildings which was excellently conducted by one of the staff. Also three of us had two very good rounds of golf at the Frassenelle Golf Course. Juliet and her niece and some friends went to the war cemetry and trenches just north of Asiago which were very worthwhile. Juliets grandfather had fought there and died of flu in a small town nearby afterwards. As you can see we had a full and eventful week.

So - great thanks to you. I hope this little bit of feed back to you is useful.

    With best wishes

We were a group of family of friends totalling 14. We stayed for 1 week in Mid August and can not recommend this beautiful property highly enough. 7 bedrooms all with ensuite bathrooms, wonderful kitchen, huge loggia, beautifully appointed living room and the entire property was absolutely spotless. Francessca and Sabah made us so welcome. The pool is incredible, we spent many wonderful, lazy days relaxing with our friends and family. Would encourage you to take advantage of the welcome dinner. Unbelievable food, table fully laid, food presented to you and your guests at the table, removed and kitchen completely cleaned up. We did not have to lift a finger. We also hired Sabah for an additional two nights to cook dinner for us and it was just as wonderful and remarkably economical. An absolute must for a big group. We are already planning our return trip. Thanks again to Francessca and Sabah. The Edis Group.

Villa La Contenta - A marvel indeed!

Our week in the Colli Euganei outside of Padova in Italy was simply marvelous. Twelve of us spent a delightful week there in mid July 2013. The administrators of the property could not have been nicer. The setting is pastoral. Having our own swimming pool was a special bonus, especially as we had two young grandchildren with us on this vacation. We would return in a minute.

Beautiful Villa with everything one would need.

Villa La Contenta is a beautiful Villa with everything one would need on Holiday, from the bedrooms with very comfortable beds all with your own bathroom, the kitchen is for people who really like to cook, everything you need in a kitchen. The property that the Villa is on is wonderful for hiking or just lounging by the pool. There is a bike trail next to the property that was easy excess. There were eleven people and everyone really enjoyed there time at Villa La Contenta.

Amazing Villa! Loved staying here and want to go again!!

We were a group of 4 couples and this was our second time renting an Italian Villa. Villa La Contenta surpassed all expectations. We would rent this place again and highly recommend it. The villa was extremely well maintained. Beds were very comfortable. Bathrooms large and clean. The maid came every day to tidy up and give us fresh towels etc. The house has very thick walls and shutters which kept the place cool and comfortable. If you want to use the the air conditioning, it had controls in every room of the house. We just put it on in our room at night and it worked extremely well. Didnt cost that much either. The bedrooms all had roll down screens which gave a pleasant breeze so air conditioning would not really be necessary for most people. (We are from Minnesota and we like it cold so that is why we used the aC) We really loved cooking in the well equipped kitchen (2 refrigerators) and the outdoor wood burning grill; using the fresh herbs from the garden and dining outside by the pool.(Note: there are 3 other large dining areas to use in the house) Pool was very large (20 yards long approx), clean and refreshing. Pool house had a full bath and changing room. Washer, dryer and ice machine was very convenient. We took day trips to Verona to see an opera in the old Roman colloseum- amazing experience! There are many other small ancient villages to explore nearby, and of course Venice, which is only an hour drive. This was truly an amazing experience.

    Dear Bettina,
Just a quick note to say how much we all enjoyed La Contenta. The celebrations went off perfectly and everyone had a marvellous time. The villa lived up to its name and we were all sad to leave such a happy place. The weather was wonderful and Anna in the office and Saba in the house did their very best to make our stay truly memorable.
Please pass on all our grateful thanks to them. Very best wishes,
    S. Taylor, July 2012

Loved the house with it's many bedrooms and baths and the unique rural location. Lived poolside and at the beautiful outdoor table for meals. The house and grounds are beautifully maintained and air conditioning was a welcome relief during high temperatures.

The great cultural wealth of the Veneto region and its diversity is one of the main reason for visiting this area. Villa La Contenta's strategic position makes for many an inspiring day trip to Padova, Venice, Vicenza, Verona, Ferrara, Lake Garda as well as Este, Montagnana, Monselice and Arquà Petrarca in the immediate vicinity. The villas on the Brenta canal as well as the famous Palladio villas should also be on your cultural agenda. Each of these destinations offers a multitude of rewarding cultural visits.

The Venetian Villas: More than 3000 villas were built in the hinterland of Venice between the 15th and 19th century. Some are open to the public. The most famous are the Palladian villas such as Villa Barbaro at Maser, Villa Emo at Fanzolo and La Rotonda near Vincenza. Do not miss the Villa Valmarana “Ai Nani” with frescoes by Tiepolo, Catajo Castle and Villa Barbarigo with its baroque garden and a maze of boxwood.

In Venice you will have the opportunity to visit any of the 84 churches present in the city, including of course the Basilica of St. Marco, which stands next to the Doge’s Palazzo, one of the main landmarks of Venice. You can also visit the islands, such as Murano, famous for its beautiful hand blown glass.

20 km from the estate you will find Padua. If you had to choose one thing to see, it would be the Cappella degli Scrovegni, a chapel entirely painted with frescoes by Giotto in the 14th century. This is considered the work which marks the beginning of the Renaissance. The main museum of Padua exposes the Emo Capodilista collection, given to the Municipality of Padua by the owners of La Montecchia. The Palazzo della Ragione (Palace of Reason), a surprising builing which rises above all the rest of the historical center of Padua exposes  another gift made by this family to the municipality, a sumptuous wooden horse.

At Vicenza you will be dazzled by Palladio’s genius. The beauty of the Olympic Theatre, an embodiment of Andrea Palladio, the Palladian Basilica, another of his masterworks, or the Loggia del Capitano. The small streets of this compact city want to be explored on foot, which will bring an exciting reward at each 20 steps you take.

The city of Verona contains many treasures: start with the Roman monuments, such as the Roman Arena. Garden lovers will want to visit the Giardino Giusti. The San Zeno church will stay with you for long. Every day the Piazza delle Erbe, a beautiful square in the center of town has a colourful market.

Asolo is a small town, famous for its lace and silk weaving. It is also resplendent with monuments, such as the remains of an amphitheatre and an aqueduct, the Rocca (castle of the 12th early 13th century), or you can visit the Palazzo della Ragione which has now become the museum of the city. In the last century it was a privileged resort by artists and writers such as Hemingway and Browning and the famous Eleonora Duse.

The town of Bassano del Grappa is located in the heart of Veneto at the foot of the Alps. The main productions of Bassano are white asparagus, ceramics, and of course grappa. You must see the Cathedral (Duomo), the Castello Superiore (Upper Castle), or the Church of St. John the Baptist.

The Euganean Hills (protected since 1989) is located south of Padua. There are many small towns to visit such as Este, Montagnana, Monselice and Arqua ‘Petrarca. And let yourself be tempted by small local trattorias!

Within 10 km distance: Villa Emo Capodilista, Villa dei Vescovi, Monastery of Praglia, Castello di S. Martino, Arquà Petrarca, Castle Il Cattaio, the gardens of Villa Barbarigo, Villa Beatrice d'Este.

The thermal baths of Abano: Only 12 km from the estate is the town of Abano Terme, a spa where mineral-rich waters emerge at a temperature of 70°C to 80°C. We recommend a day at the spas of one of the luxurious hotels.

The Golf Club: 5 minutes by car from the house lies the beautiful golf club of the estate, which is considered the best in the area. The club house is a cleverly converted farm building with a very pleasant restaurant which serves excellent light lunches and full dinners. Reduced green fees for our guests.

Closest shopping: The next village with a supermarket, bar, bank and post office is Montemerlo at 2.5 km from the property. More choices of shops you will find in Rovolon at a distance of 5 km.

Railway station: The next railway station is in Montegrotto at a distance of approx. 13 km from the property. Here you can park your car. Trains go regularly to Venice.
