    Masterly designed and immaculately furnished

Villa Teatro is an extraordinarily tastefully and impeccably designed country house. Strategically positioned in the center of the “Golden Triangle” between Florence, Siena and Pisa the property sits on top of a hill, surrounded by olive groves.

The large stone farmhouse was built at the beginning of the 1800s. Recently the interior and exterior have been authentically restored - an excellently performed restoration!

The entire atmosphere is uncompromisingly authentic and the architectural style of Tuscany and the traditional workmanship of the region are reflected in the smallest details: ample rooms with immaculately white walls, handmade terracotta tiles covering the entire floor. The brick roof rests on mighty oak beams. Elegant, silver-greyish Pietra-Serena stone frames the windows and doors made of cypress wood, which are provided with neat brass fittings in the antique style...

The house is secluded - 800 meters from the bituminised road - accessible only via a private driveway. Its isolated and dominant location surrounded by 4 hectares of private ground guarantee tranquillity, privacy - and a panoramic view over the gently rolling hills. The beautiful garden has a number of benches where you can relax and enjoy the lovely surroundings, and an excellently situated large, elegant swimming pool with a shower in the small bamboo grove.

Villa Teatro is original, artistic and conveys an atmosphere of entire privacy. This magnificent country house belongs to an artist - a renowned director, actor, teacher of modern theatre and painter. The owner planned the renoon on his own with utmost care over years; with a sharp eye, he tastefully designed the interior with select objects and carefully chosen furnishings, resulting in a real masterpiece. State-of-the-art facilities are "hidden" behind an unpretentious, but utterly charming surface resembling monastery-like simplicity. This simplicity is not accidental but the result of meticulous design deliberately limiting the furnishings to the essentials. The design was always determined by one leitmotif, namely to respect and retain the gracefulness and simplicity of the old farmhouse in harmony with its rural setting.

Villa Teatro is the result of an intense study of dramatic understatement. The planning proficiently took advantage of the natural incidence of light, which is even more important than the furnishings: the rooms overlook the valley and have been opened by round arches. The rays of sun produce a fascinating atmosphere and accentuate the plain interior.

The furniture is sober and simple: only the necessary furnishings are there, but exclusively the most valuable. All beds in Villa Teatro are plain and black, made of wrought iron; the bedrooms are delightfully furnished with antique cupboards and chests of drawers. The beautiful furniture from bygone days is unadorned and made of oak, and harmonises with the antique stone, the terracotta floor and the warm shades of the roof beams, all creating a very nostalgic country atmosphere. Visitors can relax and enjoy the picturesque surrounding - the rooms are reminiscent of paintings.

About this house a publication has appeared in a beautiful illustrated book: 'Häuser des Südens', by Thomas Drexel, Callway-Verlag, Munich 1999.

Art lovers will be exposed to an illimited choice of interesting excurtions. Florence and Siena above all, but also a number of medieval villages as Certaldo, San Gimignano and Colle Val d'Elsa are to be found in the nearest vicinity. One hour of driving takes you to the sandy beaches south of Pisa. Food lovers will no doubt succumb to the sophisticated simplicity of Tuscan cuisine. Trattorias, restaurants and a supermarket can be found in Montespertoli in less than a 10 minutes drive.

Just perfect and just as advertised. The villa and grounds were what you imagined Tuscany to be. Yves and the staff were great going out of their way to make our stay the best. Having dinner by the huge fire place and some fine Chianti wine is hard to beat.
    F. Stiller, May 2017

We lived in the villa for two weeks and most of our large family spent time with us - not all at once! The location made trips to the vineyards and hill towns very easy. Dinners prepared by Carla were outstanding. The rooms were spacious and well appointed. Ample space for gathering in larger groups. This trip was to celebrate the lives and company of our children, and grandchildren. I think I speak for them all when I say this was a picture perfect place to spend warm Tuscan days and enjoy the beauty of Italy. Waking up in the morning with mist over the valley started each day with pleasure and anticipation of new adventures to come. Hopefully again...

Perfect holiday in the Tuscan hills
Left on May 31, 2011 for a stay in Apr 2011
Villa Theatro We had such a wonderful relaxing stay at this elegantly appointed villa set in the quiet Tuscan hills. Everything about Villa Theatro is generous: the size of the rooms, each with an enormous ensuite bathroom, the many and varied places to sit or dine or read or sunbathe or gaze at the view, the kitchen which is brimful with crockery and glassware and cooking equipment, the WiFi, available and strong in each nook and cranny. This is all a reflection of the owner Yves whose care and good taste has made Villa Theatro a luxurious retreat, secluded in the countryside yet near enough to Firenze, Siena, San Gimingnano and the hilltowns. We miss waking from our comfortable beds and wandering down to cook our market finds in the olive oil from the trees in the garden, generously supplied by Yves on arrival. We had many memorable meals, including a feast from Carla who cooked in the villa for us. As course after delicious course arrived at table, belts were surrepticiously loosened and one diner, who had succumbed to seconds of the main, had to retire before dessert...never mind there were enough left overs to go back to next day. We enjoyed meeting Yves and his 3 beautiful cats who live in a studio nearby, discreetly distant but always available to help if needed. It was a perfect holiday and we'd return here without hesitation.

Perfect for business, perfect location. Really a Dream!

    Sehr geehrte Frau Röhrig!

Der Urlaub in Casa Teatro war wunderschön. Wir waren sehr zufrieden.
    Mit freundlichen Grüßen,

    Dear Ms Roehrig,
The house is really beautiful. I just love it - the situation, the fine details, the magnificent pool. And we have never seen views such as these before. They are breathtaking. We are trying to explore but find it difficult to leave the house! Very many thanks. We are very happy to find it, and to have found you for our future bookings.

    als sei's ein Grüssen oder Wiedersehn;

The villa is in the perfect location, just 40 minutes outside Florence. It overlooks a spectacular valley of vineyards, and the sunsets are amazing. In the morning, fog envelopes the valley floor, and the ancient towered city of San Gimignano rises on the opposite end of the valley, which you can see from the villa. A few minutes away is the small town of Montespertoli, which has a modern grocery store and other shops.

The Chianti area: Famous for its wines - the Chianti Classico - this area of Tuscany has more than just world-class oenological pleasures to offer. The curious visitor will come accross many delightful villages, each of them with a history of its own. Let us simply mention lesser known gems such as the romanesque church of Sant'Appiano, the Basilica of Impruneta, the fortified castle of Monteriggioni and the roofless romanesque abbey of San Galgano which are all close. And don’t miss the Saturday market in the small town of Greve.

San Gimignano is a small walled medieval hill town in the province of Siena, Tuscany, north-central Italy. It is mainly famous for its medieval architecture, especially its towers, which may be seen from several kilometers outside the town. The town also is known for the white wine, Vernaccia di San Gimignano, grown in the area.

Florence: The city lies on the Arno River and is known for its history and its importance in the Middle Ages and in the Renaissance, especially for its art and architecture. A centre of medieval European trade and finance, the city is often considered the birthplace of the Italian Renaissance; in fact, it has been called the Athens of the Middle Ages. It was long under the de facto rule of the Medici family. From 1865 to 1870 the city was also the capital of the Kingdom of Italy. The historic centre of Florence continues to attract millions of tourists each year and was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1982.

Siena: The Sienese have no doubt, their town is the most beautiful in all of Tuscany, if not all of Italy. Siena has remained a Gothic city. Renaissance, one of the major influences in Florence, hardly affected the urban development of Siena. The city unfolds around the main shell-shaped square called "Il Campo." Twice a year the famous horse race known as the "Palio" takes place here. The narrow streets are lined with old shops and small cafes, while churches and museums are real treasures of the fourteenth century.

Restaurants: eating out is a way of getting to know the area. Simple local trattorias rub their shoulders with more sophisticated restaurants specialised in refined cuisine. Fresh local produce allways plays the leading role.

Local craftsmanship: hand-made terracotta pots from Impruneta, hand painted pottery from Montelupo, mouth-blown crystal glass from the neighbouring village Colle Val d'Elsa, not to mention the south bank of the Arno river in Florence where you will find a multitude of craftsmen working silver, leather, wood, glass, paper and metal.
