Overview

Overlooking the Greve valley

This villa lies halfway between Florence and Siena in the very heart of the Chianti Classico. Located in one of the most coveted regions in Tuscany in a panoramic position overlooking the valley of Greve in Chianti (430 m above sea level), it boasts wonderful views: the landscape is spotted with small forest, vineyards and olive groves. It is a perfect setting to enjoy the beauty and tranquillity of the famous Chianti wine-growing area. Close to a restaurant you can walk just a short distance (approx. 500 m) and enjoy a typical traditional Italian meal. A wide selection of cafes, restaurants and shops can be found in the delightful medieval town of Greve in Chianti. Also Radda in Chianti is only a short drive through the awesome winding roads of Chianti. Day trips to Florence, Siena and Lucca are easy and quick. This vacation rental is an ideal solution for those who want to spend time travelling to all the wonderful places that Tuscany is well known for - yet looking to enjoy the classical views of Tuscany with sloping green hills, vineyards and olive groves.

Podere Margherita is sited on an ancient pilgrim path and its history dates back to Roman times. From here religious pilgrims travelled while making their way up to this sanctuary, first nominated in the early 1000's, before proceeding on to Rome. Until recently used as a farmhouse it is now a lovely vacation rental for groups from up to 12 people. The spacious villa has six large bedrooms and four and a half bathrooms. The bedrooms provide a spacious retreat and all enjoy lovely views of the valley or garden. Memorable meals take place in the large formal dining room, on the shaded terrace overlooking the pool and the valley, or around the wood-burning pizza and bread oven with barbecue grill. The panoramic pool looks towards west and has stupendous views. The grounds are fenced and gated for security with ample parking, and the road access is excellent.

“Beautiful, warm, and welcoming”
Reviewed September 2, 2015
We loved this charming, well-appointed villa high in the hills of Tuscany, near the market town of Greve-in-Chianti. And its owner was very good to us. In addition, Florence and Siena, Tuscany's two largest cities, are about an hour's drive (in opposite directions), and you are surrounded by wineries and the smaller hill towns that make Tuscany so justly famous.

I wanted to let you know that my friends and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this villa during the week of September 6-20th. The villa itself was perfect and the views were incredible. I highly recommend this villa although a car will be required to get around as it is rather far away from shops etc.
Thank you,
Lovatt-Dougherty, October 2014

Left on Aug 26, 2013 for a stay in Aug 2013

Dear Bettina and Ute,
I just wanted you to know all TEN (10!) of us arrived intact from various points on the map last Saturday June 23 at Podere Marguerita in Greve - it was absolutely PERFECT! The villa is just beautiful and very comfortable for our sizeable clan - antique and charming, yet modernized for comfort. Its panoramic views are absolutely breathtaking overlooking an enormous wide valley area of villages and estates, vineyards and olive groves.

Carla was so gracious and greeted our airport-weary group with a tray of glasses and chilled sparkling blush wine - such a nice touch and set us right in the mode! She gave us our orientation to the house and tips on the surrounding area and Greve, which was very helpful.

The week just flew by - lots of day trips to Greve and surrounding villages, wineries and lunch spots. We had 2 large-ish van-type vehicles and our designated drivers did an heroic job on the windy mountain roads. We all LIVED in the pool in the afternoons and our very musical grandsons loved having the grand piano to serenade the household out the open balcony doors of the music room - truly magical. Evenings we cooked in, enjoying the wonderful local foods and wine and dined at the wonderful outdoor table and loggia. The kitchen is well-equipped for preparing and serving family meals and we all improved our Cucina Italia skills. Also fun to have the outdoor grille - the 4 teenage grandsons even made us brick-oven pizzas one night that were fantastic! Greve center has everything you could need at its Coop which we augmented with delicacies from the local butcher and small specialty shops.

We enjoyed perfect weather all week - warm, sunny days with a fresh breeze and perfect sleeping at night. Beds are wonderfully comfortable and all baths modern and convenient. We appreciated the villa’s WiFi to keep in touch with the world a bit (but not too much).

Please extend our thanks and our enthusiasm for Podere Marguerita to Carla (I do not have an email for her). It was a magical, memorable week - we hated to leave and would come back in a heartbeat! Thanks to you both as well, for smooth and efficient planning. It all came together even better than we hoped!
With all best wishes,
M. Brown, July 2012

Wonderful week in a great central location in the Chianti region
Left on Jul 13, 2012 for a stay in Jun 2012
Podere Margherita is a great location for up to 10 people which was the size of our family group. Great weather and fantastic view over the valley meant we ate outside for every meal. Kitchen and facilities were also great and we found that evening meals we prepared at the house rivaled dinners out for overall enjoyment and most memorable experiences. Pool is refreshing and hits the spot after a day traveling about the Chianti region. The villa is about a 20 minute drive from Greve which is a nice town with a decent grocery store. The Villa's local owner/manager is wonderful. With a practical traveler mindset - remember everything will not be exactly like at home, wherever that is - it is a top notch vacation spot to absorb Tuscany as best one can in a week's time. Overall excellent experience; four stars for ease of check in as the realities of flight schedules mean that departing guests and arriving guests tend to overlap and some negotiation is needed to sort that out. Solution: If you arrive in the morning, spend a bit of time wandering about Greve - it is market day - and chill for a bit.

A Room with a View in Chianti
Left on Oct 22, 2010 for a stay in Sep 2010
This is a wonderful property in the countryside about 7 km from Greve, the centre of the wine growing area of Chianti. It has a fine prospect of the whole Greve valley It has charm and history, and was perfect for accommodating the four couples in our group. The on-site owner was charming, helpful and very knowledgeable. A wonderful modern kitchen, and good clean facilities throughout. Well located for day trips to Florence, Siena, San Gimignano, many other hill towns, and even to Pisa and Lucca. Our party of eight had a wonderful time.

Hallo,
