A farmhouse near to a village
The La Corte estate stretches out over a hillside covered with vineyards, olive trees and woodland. It is set in the very heart of Chianti near the main road from Florence to Siena, only 16 km south of Florence. This lovely estate on the western fringe of Chianti is owned by one of Italy's oldest families, descendants of both a saint and Pope Clement XII (who commissioned the Trevi Fountain in Rome). At one time the property owner could ride all the way from this estate to their palace in Rome without ever leaving their own land. Despite its august background, this property is a refreshingly friendly and relaxed estate: The Renaissance Villa (no picture here), one of the finest in Tuscany, stands on the highest hill in the very centre of the estate. The Italian garden overlooking the Pesa Valley and the vast fourteenth century wine cellars and oil jar-storage, built into the embankment in the garden, complete the picturesque scenario. There is a small family owned restaurant on the premises, by the winery, open for lunch from Monday to Sunday and on the evenings of Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Having entered the hudge estate, a private access road of approx. 200 m leads to the La Corte farmhouse. La Corte stands by its own. The house has 7 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms, a total of 14 people can be accommodated. If your group is larger than 14 people another bedroom and bathroom can eventually be opened additionally (to be requested when booking).
The house was restored and modern amenities were installed while retaining the original architectural structure and characteristic farmhouse features. The interior is still "farm style". Some rooms have antique terracotta tiled floors, others have wooden floors. The brick roof rests on mighty oak beams. Just outside the dining room there is a terrace for al fresco dining equipped with table, chairs and a large garden parasol. A lawn leads to the pool. From the swimming pool, the garden fades naturally into the surrounding olive groves.
The house has views over the gently rolling hills, olive growes, vineyards and the village of San Casciano. It is just outside of the village, approx. 1.5 km distant. You could even walk there! San Casciano offers a good choice of excellent restaurants, a geleteria, several Cappuccino bars, all kind of grocery shops, a cinema, a bank, a post office and a beautiful local market every Monday morning. In the house you will find a list of recommended restaurants and information about the region. If you travel during the colder months you will enjoy the heated public indoor pool of San Casciano which is only 500 metres from the property. The villa's location only 1.5 km from the next bus stop is a good base to visit Florence even without a car. During the week buses go regularly to Florence (approx. every 1.5 hours). In Florence the bus will take you to the main train station which is right in the centre of Florence - it is just a short walk from the station "Santa Maria Novella" to the Cathedral or the Uffizi.
La Corte is suitable for anyone interested in the inner workings of an olive-oil- and wine-producing estate. The extensive vine and olive cultivations stretch as far as the eye can see. A selection of the best vintages is stored in the winery cellars in large kegs, and the olive oil is delcious. The estate offers those seeking to immerse themselves in the green hills of Chianti Classico the possibility of absorbing nature, history and culture in one!
The estate has another small holiday structure (La Scala / also featured in our portfolio), a small apartment for 4 people. It does not disturb the privacy of the La Corte guests since it is at a distance of approx. 300 metres, it can not be seen, it has its own access road and even its own pool.
The Chianti area
The Chianti area
The hills of Chianti, criss-crossed with vines and crested with cypress trees have become the hallmark of Tuscany, the beauty of the landscape married to a quality of life which would be rare anywhere in the world. Chiantishire, as the English call it, has an infinite variety of hilltop villages where you can sip a cappuccino in one of the outdoor cafes in the medieval squares, of cellars where you can sample the local wines from the barrels, of little trattorias serving robustly satisfying Tuscan food with its hams and salamis and delicious pastas and wild boar stew with white beans and salads growing wild in the hedgerows. The back roads wind uphill and down, between old stone walls crested with pale violet irises past Romanesque cloisters, sandstone farmhouses and shepherds with their flocks of sheep producing the famed 'pecorino' cheese.
You are in the heart of Tuscany (San Casciano is "the doorway to Chianti"), and the list of excursions half or a whole day away is long: Florence, famous for its fine Renaissance art, the walled city of Lucca with its 99 churches, the leaning tower of Pisa, the Val d'Orcia with the Renaissance town of Pienza and the wine-making meccas of Montepulciano and Montalcino and the awe-inspiring abbey of Sant'Antimo are just a few...
Florence is 15 to 20 minutes away, Greve in Chianti 25 minutes, San Gimignano 30 minutes, while Siena can be reached in 50 minutes. Montalcino and Pienza are a one and a half hour's drive, while the Thyrrenian sea is one hour away. Pisa and Lucca are one hour by car while the jet-set sea resort of Porto Ercole can be reached in approx. two hours.
Airports and transport
The Florence airport is 25 kilometres away and Pisa is at 118 kilometres, while the airport in Rome is less than three hours away and approx. 290 kilometres further south. The nearest railway station with most travel options is Florence.

Our Guests Reviews

Our group was very impressed with the property. A wonderful welcome basket greeted us on arrival. The rooms were very spacious and each came with its own bathroom . We had daily housekeeping and a complimentary wine tasting came with our rental. The swimming pool was very clean and was enjoyed by young and old. The only negative was the amount of steps in the building. We had two toddlers so we had to be constantly vigilant with them We were able to close doors between the different rooms. The location was wonderful with a 20 minute drive to Florence and easy access to Sienna and Chianti area I would definitely recommend this property.

The way the sun moves around the house, the sound of the cicadas, how each window frames a breathtaking view; these are unforgettable memories. We spent the whole month of July here. The house is well maintained and comfortable. The ac was only used on very hot nights, we used fans that we bought in town during the day. The beds are very comfortable, the bathrooms clean and modern, the kitchen equipped well enough. The winery's little restaurant on the estate was so convenient and the food delicious. We had the cook come down to make us a special dinner at the house one night, which was lovely. Everyone who works on the property is very professional and helpful, especially alessandra. They provide a large stock of wine and bottled water in the house which you can buy as you wish (keep tabs on this!). We did our food shopping at the coop nearby. There is a nice gym on the property next door. Very convenient. Stairs in the house could be tricky for elderly or young kids- No railings. Mosquitoes were fierce in July. Pool was fantastic and cleaned constantly. Florence is a 1/2 hour bus ride from town - get tickets at the tobacco shop. This was easy. Town of San Casciano is charming. No tourists- local people doing errands in the mornings, socializing in the evenings. Some very charming restaurants in town. Some cute shops. You can find what you need. Good pharmacy, good hardware/houseware store. It was wonderful. I could have stayed forever.
Truly my best vacation to date--and I've taken a lot!

This was a wonderful villa. First, where can you find a villa where each bedroom had its own bathroom? All of our friends were extremely happy with the accommodations. Great farmhouse, in great location, not far from town (where, yes, we did interact with the locals). Just fun, fun, fun. I really can't say enough. Would highly recommend this place to anyone. It is not fancy, but just so authentic, situated in a beautiful countryside. Just lovely.
Total Tuscan Experience

We had 13 people at the villa for two weeks. We could not have been more pleased. The villa bathrooms have all been updated and were extremely great shape considering we were in a Tuscan farmhouse that had all the old world charm you would expect. The views are spectacular... You overlook the grape vines and olive trees that cover the property. The staff was very attentive to our every need. We did do cooking school at the owner's villa and that was very special. (Strongly suggest you do this if you want to understand and prepare true Tuscan meals). They arranged a wine tour of the winery for us and a tasting. You will really enjoy the wine. Arranged Guido's wine tours for us that was outstanding... (full day of visits to wineries that are outside the large tour bus route) The winery is only 2 minute walk from the villa... we picked up wine everyday for our meals. We cooked outside in the evening and sat under the Tuscan sunset with the charming views of the countryside. The restaurant at the winery was great for lunch if you were staying home that day . We did a closing night dinner for 13 that the staff handled perfectly!! The village is about a 1.5 mile walk... charming, non tourist with small shops and restaurants. Bus to Florence is in the city center and takes about 1/2 hour to 45 minutes depending on traffic. Maid service everyday was a plus... Good idea to have a car at villa. We shopped for groceries at the COOP which was about 4 miles away . Local market with everything you will need. This was not our first villa rental and collectively everyone enjoyed our stay. Only recommendation to the staff would be to get better / sharper knives in the kitchen for groups that like to cook at the villa...
Toscana, a place to relax and meet history face on.

The Villa was fantastic, setting exceptional. Great location to be between Florence and Siena, so many lovely towns within easy reach The owners were real people, taking the time to make sure all was a-OK. Those looking after the Vila on a day to day basis were attentive and most helpful. When we need special help, there were there. Villa was well cared for as was the pool and grounds. The kitchen could do with a few more items like pepper grinder, mortar and pestel, and a good steel to sharpen the knives, especially as we were using the facilitues early every day. Many of the dining and kitchen chairs were weak and wobbly. Cleaning service excellent. Overall I would give the Vila 9 out f 10. We had a great time.
Buonasera, We stayed at Villa Corte last week. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the beautiful villa, and will recommend it to friends.

We had a group of 14 adults and it was a wonderful setup for all of us. The house was comfortable and what I expected of an old Italian villa. The kitchen was large and accommodated a lot of cooks! We took cooking lessons at the main residence on the property where the family that own the estate lives. Everyone on the estate was friendly and accommodating. We loved every minute!
