Il Bareto

Hello. We are looking for a place to stay in Italy for our family of five for August. We have not booked our flights yet and have some flexibility in our dates. Friends of ours stayed in one of your villas in Tuscany, Il Bareto, and were very pleased. It looks beautiful from the website. Could you please tell me if you have anything available that might suit us? We would like to have access to some of the cities (Sienna, Florence) and would like water (pool, lake, beach).

We stayed spent a week at Il Bareto in 2004 and had a wonderful experience. We are returning to Italy this year and are hoping to be able to spend a week at Il Bareto during our time there. We are only my husband and myself and we stayed in the small "Patio" apartment. We would like to rent it again. Please let us know if this is possible, and the current weekly rate for the Il Bareto "Patio" apartment during those dates.

I've been there twice now and loved it both times! i'm particularly interested in I CARRI, where i stayed with my mother and cousin and aunt two years ago. Is it still available?

Art & landscape
Il Bareto stands alone among the rolling hills, in 8 hectares of private land, with many age-old chestnut and oak trees.
The house is somewhat out of the way - 200 m from the main road - accessible via a private drive. Its excellent, solitary position guarantees peace, quiet and outstanding panoramic views over the wide Siena countryside.
From the garden, the eye roams across a wide field, coming to rest upon the wonderful renaissance castle, Castello di Celsa - an architectural jewel by the famous Baldassare Peruzzi - and wanders into the distance to enjoy the silhouette of Siena. In the middle of the lawn, there is a delightful pool with sun-lounges. It has been built in the former manure reservoir, is 10 x 5 m in size and heated. The area around Bareto has remained unspoiled, in its natural beauty - forests and fields as far as the eye can see. This is a wonderful place for walking, particularly during spring and fall.
Il Bareto is a large country house with several smaller adjacent buildings, such as the former chestnut barn, the wood store and a hay barn.
All in all, there is around 800 m2 living space. In times gone by, 15 people lived and worked on this estate - now there is only one family of 3. Part of the main house is occupied by the owners.
There are three holiday apartments: the large unit PRATOLINO of 160 m2 and I CARRI of 130 m2 are located in the main house, while the smaller unit PATIO of 30 m2 can be found in part of the annex. Each apartment has its own outdoor area: PRATOLINO has a lawn in front of the kitchen, I CARRI a gazebo, PATIO a large and private terrace.
The owner has recently completely renovated her house in a most commendable manner, with a great eye for detail. The apartments have been cleverly and tastefully designed and furnished. Terracotta floors, a few warm wooden floors and open wooden beam-work create a homely atmosphere. Some of the brick and stone door frames have also been exposed. The interior style is a successful combination of the traditional and the modern. A selection of antique furniture contrasts harmoniously with the Mediterranean shades of color on the walls: warm apricot and faded blue and lilac lend the apartment a modern tone.
About the region
This optimum holiday location is well suited for day trips around the north, to the Chianti region, San Gimignano or Florence and to the south - Montalcino, Montepulciano, Pienza and even Rome; to Follonica (70 km) on the west coast or the white sandy beaches in the Uccellina nature reserve, south of Grosseto (75 km). You are soon in peaceful Siena - a mere 15 minutes by car; only an hour to the busy city of Florence.
During the cooler months we highly recommend visiting the elegant hot baths at Rapolano Terme. Rapolano offers two spas, particulary beautiful is the new San Giovanni Terme. They are around 25 km from the house. Relax and enjoy a massage or fango treatment, use the fitness center or the wonderful hot outdoor pool. If you should come during the fall, there are a range of special culinary treats such as the truffle feast in San Giovanni d'Asso, near Pienza, which takes place in October and where you will find the exquisite Tartuffo Bianco.
About the Palio festival
The famous Palio takes place in the centre of Siena on the beautiful Piazza del Campo twice a year (in the beginning of July and in mid-August): a colourful horse-racing festival, held since the Middle Ages, in which every Contrada (city quarter) sends off its festively decorated horse to defend the quarter's honour after it has been blessed in the church.
Siena awaits the festival in a fever of anticipation the whole year long. In the week before and after the Palio, celebrations take place in the streets: festive meals are eaten outside on long tables, large banquets in the romantic streets of the town organised by the various Contrade for hundreds of people ...

1 kitchen/living-room, small table for 2-3 people, two wicker chairs and a single bed, 1 double room, 1 bathroom (shower). The long, narrow living room has a glass door, leading to the 50 m2 terrace. The terrace has been furnished with a table and chairs and offers privacy.
Patio has a CD-stereo. The apartment is located in the annex on the ground floor (about 10 m from the main house) and at the rear of the summer kitchen. As Patio is a very small apartment it is mostly used for additions to parties of Pratolino or I Carri.

Attic: 1 bedroom with double bed (additional bed available upon request when booking) and ensuite bathroom (shower).
I Carri has a satellite TV, CD-stereo, dishwasher and a washing machine. This two floor apartment is painted in pleasant Mediterranean colors. It is located in the upper floor of the main haouse, has a separate entrance and can be accessed by outside steps. A gazebo with table, chairs and illumination is located outside.
There is a large shared summer kitchen available to all guests (approx. 50 sqm), in the nearby former hay barn. Here you will find a barbecue and long wooden table suitable to seat 12 people. There is also a pool, used by guests and owner alike.
