PERSONALITIES
"I assure you that even with the experience I have had of the most beautiful landscapes in Italy and elsewhere, I know of nothing that can compare with the view one enjoys from the tower and the Queen's palace." (Robert Browning, letter dated 1889 to friend Mrs. Fitzgerald).
The charm of Asolo attracted many intellectuals and artists such as Robert Browning, Eugene Benson, Igor Strawinsky, Ernest Hemingway... Among them three non-conformists and intellectual women lived here: Caterina Cornaro former Queen of Cyprus who exiliated in Asolo in 1489 and created here a magnificent Renaissance court of artists, men of letters and poets; Eleonora Duse (1858-1924) star of the international theatre world; and Freya Stark explorer, author and photographer.
