Filigrano

Plenty of room in a wide natural landscape

Filigrano crowns the top of a hill in the Chianti Classico region. One has a magnificent view of beautiful valleys to the Castellina in Chianti opposite and San Donato in Poggio. Filigrano is an antique hamlet: the centrally situated main house, with the large green courtyard in front of it, is surrounded by the smaller adjacent buildings: old barn, farmhouses, a pretty chapel surrounded by cypresses and a garden pavilion.

The gardens are immense: neat lawns and flower beds surround the various houses and paths; vineyards, olive groves and woods gently merge into the open, Mediterranean landscape.

A 2 km private gravel road leads to the hamlet. The estate stretches across 60 acres of farmland which lies 300-400 meters above sea level. The wide view over the hills is outstanding. The home-made wine is also excellent. The fattoria (farm) products can be purchased in the hamlet: Chianti Classico, table wines, vintages, white wines, Vinsanto, Grappa and olive oil.

The estate houses are all built of stone. The individual apartments are in the main and adjacent buildings. In the design of the apartments great care was taken to ensure a maximum of room and privacy.

Each apartment has its own private outdoor area with nice garden furniture - the apartments are at a convenient distance from one another. The shared garden is so large that everyone will be able to find their own private corner. All apartments are spacious. The smallest are 65 sqm. They are furnished in a rustic country style and have harmoniously mingled old with new.

The atmosphere is typically Tuscan: terracotta floors, wooden open-plan ceilings, a large fireplace. The standard of furnishing differs: the best apartments are perhaps the two "Filigrano B and D" ones the most simply furnished and reasonably priced one is "Macine A".

Extensive outdoor areas provide enough variety: mountain bikes can be hired, there are hiking trails on the estate and you may stroll through the olive groves and vineyards surrounding the farm, there is a children's play area, hard tennis court dating back to the early nineties, a barbecue and, of course, a large pool. The pool is a proud 16x8 meters of which a small area (4x2) is designed as a baby pool. The pool is about 300 m from the main house - on a large, sunny plateau with a magnificent view in all directions. You can even enjoy the magnificent view of the valley from the water. So get those suitcases packed and don't forget the swimsuits!

In spring 2003 five beautifully furnished new apartments have been created in an ancient farmhouse about 500 m distant from the main house (Filigrano Nuovo / also featured in our portfolio). Filigrano and Filigrano Nuovo share the pool.

The nearest shops are 3 km away in San Donato - approx. a 10 minute's drive from the apartments. This pretty Medieval village offers grocery stores, a cappuccino bar, a bank, post office, gas station and two restaurants. There are many other small trattoria and specialty restaurants in the area - enough to try a different one every evening! We will provide you with tips for this region.

The little Chianti town of Castellina is only 13 km away and the famous Medieval town of San Gimignano a mere 25 km. Florence and Sienna are both just 30 km from the apartments.

The driving time from the airport is approx.: Florence 45 min, Pisa 1 hr 15 min, Bologna 1 hr 40 min.
